Are you paying attention?: Leap Day Edition

***Update*** Congratulations to Esther, Betty L., Angela C., Betty V., and Kelly for paying attention to this blog! It earned them a couple free points in extra credit!

Now it's time for Mr. Webb's favorite game, Are you paying attention?, where Mr. Webb checks to find out if you actually read what he's writing on here.

Today's challenge: Tell me how many minutes were between today's date and the last time that it was today's date. The first 5 students with a correct answer (who also show how they got that answer) get extra credit.

Go.

  2. Awesome Betty is here to say, "Since this year is leap year and today is februay 29, this mean the last time we have february 29 was four years ago. Now one day we have 1440 minutes, one year we have 525600 minutes, so four year we have 2102400 minutes~ so there are about 2102400 minutes between the last today and today. Am I right?? XD~

  3. It takes the earth 365 days, 5 hours, and 48 minutes to go around the sun.
(365x24x60+5x60+48)x4=2103792. There are 365 days in a year and 24 hours in a day and 60 minutes in an hour.

  5. Whoohoo leap year! The last time we had a leap year was four years ago...DUH! Soooooo one day has 24 hours, one hour has 60 minutes, so that means there are 1,440 minutes in a day. There are 365 days in one year, and so we multiply that by 24 and we get 8,760 hours in one year. Multiply that by 60 and we get 525,600 minutes in one year. NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE! We multiply 525,600 minutes by 4 (years) and we get 2,102,400 minutes. So voila! There have been approximately 2,102,400 minutes since the last leap year (4 years ago) and this leap year (today).
YAY I GET EXTRA CREDIT FOR COMMUNICATIONS CLASS!! :D

  7. From the book it says that a year is 365.242374 days long. Which is 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes, and 12 seconds! The equation of calculte a year is like 365 + 1/4 − 1/100 + 1/400 = 365.2425, then we found the solution of a year. So, how many minutes between this time and last time Feb 29 which is 2008 and 2012? Let's find it!

    Days:(365x24x60)=525600min
    Hours:(5x60)=300min
    Minutes: 49min
    Second: 12sec
    4(525600+300+49)=2103796min
    2103796min+4(12)sec= 2103796min and 48sec.
The final solution of this question is 2103796min and 48sec. HAHA so awesome I THINK I got the solution!
    MUHAHAHAhahahahaaaa :D

  8. wiat!
the solutaion of 2103796min and 48sec also can write in 2103799.2! Because 12sec also equal to 0.8min. Thus, (0.8x4)+2103796=2103799.2min!!
Consequently my soluation also can write in 2103799.2min! haha
